Who Gentle Care Is For

Some people prefer a lighter approach. Gentle care fits a range of patients and presentations.

First-Time Patients

A first chiropractic visit should feel calm and clear. We walk through what we see, what care could look like, and which technique is the best starting point for your body.

Necks That Need Lighter Care

For patients who want their neck adjusted with instruments instead of by hand, the Activator and Arthrostim deliver precise input without an audible cavitation. A low-force option for sensitive necks.

Hypermobile or Sensitive Spines

Patients with Ehlers-Danlos, hypermobility, or osteoporosis benefit from low-force methods that work within tighter safety margins. We adjust the input to create the greatest outcome.

Seniors and Older Adults

Bone density, joint wear, and medication context all shape what a gentle adjustment looks like. Care is calibrated to the joint and the person in the room. Senior patients fit naturally into our broader family chiropractic care.

Prenatal and Postpartum Patients

Pregnancy and recovery call for modified positioning and lighter input. The same approach extends to prenatal chiropractic care across every trimester.

Pediatric and Family Care

Small bodies need small input. Adjustments for children use light pressure that looks nothing like an adult adjustment. The same considered approach runs through our pediatric chiropractic care across every age.

Listening Is Part of the Adjustment

Stein Chiropractic has been in San Diego since 1991. Dr. Yossi Stein runs the practice, and every patient is seen by him directly. Consistent care, one patient at a time, and every adjustment matched to what works best for you.

Gentle care is built into how every visit runs. The patient describes what brought them in, the area is assessed, and the technique that fits the case is the one used. When a different approach is the better clinical call, we adapt.

How We Treat

Three approaches that we commonly use.

01

Activator and Arthrostim

Two instruments that deliver precise, low-force input to a specific joint. The Activator uses a single quick impulse; the Arthrostim delivers a rapid series of lighter impulses. Both are good options for patients who prefer their neck or back adjusted by instrument rather than by hand.

02

Joint Mobilization

A controlled, low-force movement of a joint through its available range. A useful option when manual adjusting isn’t indicated or when the patient prefers a lighter technique. Often used on the spine, shoulders, hips, and other extremities.

03

Manual Adjustments

A manual adjustment is used when it is the right clinical option for the joint and the patient. The patient is part of the decision before any adjustment is made.

The Instruments We Use

Gentle care works because the right tool is available at the right moment. Three instruments and a manual technique cover almost every gentle adjustment.

  • The Activator A small handheld instrument that delivers one quick, controlled impulse. Often used on the neck, mid-back, and extremities when a low-force input is the right call.
  • The Arthrostim A rapid-impulse instrument that delivers a series of lighter inputs. Effective for guarded joints and patients who prefer instrument-assisted care.
  • The Drop Table A specialized adjusting table with a segment that drops a short distance during the adjustment. The table absorbs the force, so the input stays light and the joint moves cleanly.
  • Manual Technique Used when a manual adjustment is the right clinical option. Same precision as every other technique in the practice.

Understanding Gentle Chiropractic

Gentle chiropractic is a matter of force selection, not a separate philosophy. The clinical goal of any adjustment is to restore motion to a joint that has stopped moving well, and there are several ways to deliver that input.

The Activator and Arthrostim deliver low force in a very specific direction. Joint mobilization delivers even less, applied through a controlled range of movement. The drop table absorbs most of the input. A manual adjustment uses higher force and is sometimes the cleanest option for a given joint.

The right technique is the one that fits the joint, the patient, and the day. Chiropractic care is well established as a safe option when the doctor matches the technique to the body in front of them.

What makes care feel gentle is the technique and the conversation around it. The patient knows the plan before treatment begins and can request a different technique at any point. Most patients find a mix that works and stay with it.

What to Expect

A first visit starts with a conversation about your history, what brought you in, and how you feel about different techniques. The area is assessed, the technique to start with is explained, and care proceeds from there.
