Prenatal Chiropractic in Clairemont
Chiropractic care for the aches of pregnancy, from first symptoms through delivery. Walk in any trimester, no appointment, no referral.
What We Treat
The presentations we see most often during pregnancy.
Lower Back & SI Joint Pain
As the center of gravity shifts forward, the low back and sacroiliac joints take on more work and often start to ache or lock up. Care focuses on restoring the joint motion that shift takes away.
Pelvic & Hip Stiffness
The pelvis widens and softens to make room for the baby, and the hips often stiffen in response. Gentle adjustments keep both moving evenly through each stage.
Sciatica & Leg Pain
A deep ache running into the hip or down the leg often traces to sciatic nerve irritation during pregnancy. Targeted adjustments take pressure off the nerve, the same approach behind our sciatica care.
Neck Pain, Headaches & Shoulder Strain
Postural change, broken sleep, and hormonal shifts wear on the upper body. Care works on the restricted joints behind cervicogenic headaches and the neck pain common in pregnancy.
Round Ligament & Abdominal Discomfort
Sharp pulling near the belly or hips as the uterus grows is common mid-pregnancy. It usually settles with gentle care aimed at the ligaments doing the supporting.
Posture, Balance & Mobility
The frame recalibrates week by week, and posture and balance shift with it. Periodic visits keep joints moving well so staying active stays realistic.
Your Prenatal Care Is Personal Here
Expecting mothers are among the most regular patients at Stein Chiropractic, often referred by a friend partway through the second trimester. Dr. Yossi Stein treats each one through delivery and, usually, well past it.
The practice was founded in La Jolla in 1991 by Dr. Richard Stein. The approach has held since: careful assessment first, then technique suited to the patient on the table.
Before chiropractic, Dr. Stein worked as an EMT and ski patroller. Many prenatal patients return after delivery, first with a newborn, then with the rest of the family.
How We Treat Prenatal Patients
How the work changes when the patient is pregnant.
Prenatal Chiropractic Adjustments
Gentle adjustments with positioning modified for the trimester. Care restores joint motion in the spine and pelvis using pregnancy-specific technique, and continues into postpartum recovery.
Pelvic Balancing for Pregnancy
Focused work on restriction in the pelvis, sacrum, and the ligaments around them. Better pelvic motion means more comfort as pregnancy progresses.
Soft Tissue & Mobility Work
Manual work on the hips, low back, and mid-back eases the muscle patterns that come with carrying a baby. The goal is simple: keep you moving well as the body changes.
Understanding Prenatal Chiropractic Care
Pregnancy reshapes how the body carries itself. The pelvis widens, the low back curve deepens, and balance shifts week by week to make room for the baby. Relaxin loosens the ligaments to prepare for delivery, and most women feel some low back or pelvic pain along the way.
Most patients come in once symptoms first appear, often in the second trimester. A recent patient at 18 weeks walked in with low back pain running into sciatic-pattern discomfort, a classic presentation as the pelvis changes shape. More on pregnancy pelvic pain patterns.
Why Stability Beats Stretching
Many patients ask if they should simply stretch more. Usually, no. Relaxin has already loosened the ligaments, and joint laxity measurably increases from the first trimester on. The body doesn't need more range. It needs stability and clean joint motion.
That is where chiropractic care fits: restoring motion where joints are restricted while the ligaments do their loosening. Every technique is adapted for pregnancy, and our guide to pregnancy chiropractic safety covers exactly how.
What to Expect
A first visit starts with an assessment of what's moving well and what's restricted. Adjustments are done in side-posture or whatever position is comfortable for your stage, with pressure scaled to your tolerance throughout. Most patients leave knowing what's driving the discomfort and how often to return.
Trimester by Trimester
Where the body is at each stage.
First Trimester
The mechanical changes haven’t arrived yet, but fatigue and broken sleep have. Early visits suit patients who want existing patterns addressed before pregnancy adds to them.
Second Trimester
Low back and pelvic pain most often begin here, as the bump starts changing how everything moves. This is when most prenatal patients first come in and a visit rhythm takes shape.
Third Trimester
Discomfort tends to peak as delivery approaches: pelvic pressure, hip stiffness, harder nights. Visits often get more frequent here, focused on comfort and motion through the final weeks.
Real Patients. Real Relief.
From patients who have walked through pregnancy and beyond with Dr. Stein.
"The best chiropractor! I got a recommendation from a friend for a good chiropractor for pregnancy. My goals were to feel good and to make enough space for baby to position with the head down (vs. first baby that was breech). Now my baby is head down and each visit is a life saver for me, I can function good and minimal back pain. Highly recommended for anyone who wish to feel better!"
"Dr. Stein was extremely helpful, informative, and made me feel at ease immediately. I came in in a lot of pain and I'm feeling so much better after a few treatments."
"I want to come to Dr. Stein's office every day to be adjusted!"
