What We Treat

The acute problems that bring patients in the same day they call.

Sudden Neck Pain & Spasms

Sharp pain, spasms, or a neck that locks up overnight often points to a joint or nerve issue. Dr. Stein identifies what’s driving the lockup and delivers precise adjustments to get the neck moving again. Learn more on our dedicated neck pain chiropractor page.

Acute Low Back Pain

Whether it started while lifting, twisting, or getting out of bed, sudden low back pain can stop you cold. We assess spinal mechanics, address what’s restricted, and get you upright and moving again without forcing anything.

Pinched Nerve Symptoms

Numbness, tingling, or shooting pain down an arm or leg usually points to nerve compression — often from a joint that’s stopped moving the way it should. Careful adjustments take pressure off the irritated nerve at its source, restoring comfort and normal sensation without medication or downtime.

Rib & Mid-Back Lockups

Stabbing pain between the shoulder blades, or a rib that catches when you take a deep breath, usually traces to restricted joints in the thoracic spine. Dr. Stein mobilizes what’s stuck so you can breathe, twist, and turn again without catching your breath.

Injured Lifting or Twisting

Acute strains from the gym, the yard, or the job site can derail your week and leave you guarding every movement. Dr. Stein assesses alignment, addresses what’s restricted, and supports fast recovery through precise chiropractic and soft tissue work.

Headaches from Tension or Trauma

Stress or impact can trigger headaches that sit behind the eyes or at the base of the skull. We address the upper neck mechanics that feed the pattern — especially helpful after our car accident chiropractic care.

Trained for the Moment Pain Hits

Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Yossi Stein served as an EMT and ski patroller. He’s been the first person on scene when someone is hurt and afraid. That training — staying calm, assessing fast, acting with precision — is the foundation for how he treats every acute case that walks through the door.

Emergency chiropractic care is about reading the body in front of you and choosing the right technique for what it can tolerate that day. The same injury can look different on different patients, and the right response depends on what walks through the door.

A serious injury at twenty-two gave him a patient’s perspective that never left him. He knows what it feels like to be the one on the table, hurting, hoping this time will be different.

How We Treat Emergency Cases

Three techniques chosen in real time based on what your body can tolerate today.

01

Chiropractic Adjustments

Gentle, precise spinal adjustments restore joint motion and take pressure off overactive nerves and muscles. For acute pain, Dr. Stein adjusts only at the level your body is ready for — never forcing a segment that’s guarded or inflamed.

02

Joint Mobilization

When pain or swelling is too high for a full adjustment, low-force mobilization frees stiff joints and restores movement gradually. It’s the safe first step for patients who walk in at the peak of a flare-up.

03

Active Release Technique (ART)

Acute injuries often leave soft tissue guarded and knotted around the joint that’s hurting. ART addresses those restrictions hands-on, improving circulation and giving the adjustment something it can hold.

Understanding Emergency Chiropractic Care

Emergency chiropractic care is for acute musculoskeletal problems that can’t wait for an appointment next week. It’s for the in-between moments where you can walk in but can barely function, and where walk-in chiropractic care gets you moving again the same day.

Acute cases typically respond well to precise chiropractic care — sometimes within a single visit, sometimes over a short course of follow-up. Treatment is matched to what the body presents with on the day of the visit, not to a protocol. For patients who have been through this cycle before, breaking the throw-it-out cycle starts with the underlying pattern.

What to Expect

Walk in. Dr. Stein will ask what happened, examine how you move, and tell you honestly whether an adjustment is the right call today. If it isn’t, you’ll know. If it is, you’ll feel the difference before you leave.

Common Questions

Tap any question to expand the answer.

When should I go to the ER instead of a chiropractor?

Chiropractic care is the right fit for acute musculoskeletal pain — a back that locked up, a neck that won’t turn, a rib that catches when you breathe. If something about your situation calls for imaging, medication, or hospital-level evaluation, the ER is the right first stop. Dr. Stein will help you sort that out when you walk in and guide you toward the right care if it turns out to be beyond what chiropractic handles.

Should I call first or just walk in?

Either works. Calling ahead at 858.587.7000 lets Dr. Stein know you’re on your way and gives him a chance to have time ready for you. If you’re already in pain and can get here, walking in is just as welcome — the practice is built around same-day care.

Will an adjustment make my pain worse?

Dr. Stein assesses before he adjusts, every visit. If your body is ready for an adjustment, you’ll get one calibrated to exactly what it can handle today. If a gentler approach is the right fit, he’ll start with low-force mobilization or soft tissue work and build from there. Every decision is made alongside you, not ahead of you.

How soon after an injury should I come in?

Sooner is better. The first 72 hours after an acute injury are when early care tends to make the biggest difference — addressing the problem before the body builds compensations usually means a smoother recovery. That said, it’s never too late. Whether it’s been a day, a week, or longer, Dr. Stein can help you move forward from where you are now.

Do you take insurance for emergency visits?

Stein Chiropractic is a cash-pay, out-of-pocket practice, which keeps care simple and lets Dr. Stein spend his full attention on you rather than on paperwork. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at every visit and chiropractic care is an eligible expense on both.
