What We Treat

The headache patterns we see most often in our Clairemont practice.

Tension Headaches

A band of pressure across the forehead or temples that builds through the day. Most cases trace to restricted joints in the upper back and neck.

Migraine Patterns

Throbbing pain on one side, sometimes with light sensitivity and nausea. Many migraine patients also have an upper cervical component that responds to chiropractic care alongside their medical management.

Cervicogenic Headaches

Pain that starts at the base of the skull and refers up into the head, sometimes behind one eye. The neck is the source. Restoring upper cervical motion typically reduces frequency and intensity.

Headaches from Desk Posture

A 3pm headache after eight hours at a screen is a postural pattern. Forward head position strains the upper cervical joints and refers pain upward. Care targets the structural cause, not the symptom.

Morning Headaches

Waking with head pain commonly points to sleep position, an unsupportive pillow, or jaw clenching that carries into the neck overnight. For severe day-of pain, same-day chiropractic care is available.

Stress-Pattern Headaches

Chronic stress arrives as bracing through the neck, shoulders, and jaw. That tightening refers pain into the head. Care treats the pattern stress leaves in the body.

Headache Care That Looks at the Neck First

Dr. Yossi Stein has spent years working with patients who have tried everything for stubborn headaches. What he sees most is upper cervical dysfunction that was never connected to the head pain.

At twenty-two, a serious head injury put him on the patient's side of care. Chiropractic restored his neck's function, and the patient's perspective it gave him never left.

Stein Chiropractic has run on the same model since 1991: a doctor's full attention, every visit.

How We Treat

Precise techniques, matched to what your assessment shows.

01

Chiropractic Adjustments

Precise adjustments to the upper cervical and thoracic spine target the joint restrictions behind most recurring headache patterns. The work is calibrated to what the body presents with that day.

02

Joint Mobilization

Graded mobilization restores motion to stiff segments through the thoracic and cervical spine. For headache patients, this reclaims range that months of desk work quietly took away.

03

Active Release Technique (ART)

Targeted soft-tissue work on the sub-occipital muscles, upper trapezius, and jaw. These are the usual pain generators for tension-type and cervicogenic headaches.

Which Headache Pattern Is Yours?

The three chronic headache types we see most, side by side.

Neck-Driven Cervicogenic Often misdiagnosed as migraine. Responds when the neck pattern is addressed.
Muscle-Driven Tension The most common headache. Almost always traces to the shoulders and upper back.
Neurological Migraine A primary neurological event, managed medically first.
Where it starts
CervicogenicBase of skull or upper neck, referring forward into the head
TensionBoth sides of the head, across the forehead and temples
MigraineOne side of the head, often behind one eye or in the temple
Pain quality
CervicogenicSteady, dull ache. Usually one-sided
TensionTightness that wraps the head in a band. Dull, not throbbing
MigraineThrobbing or pulsing. Often severe
Common triggers
CervicogenicHead positions, long screen time, sleeping wrong
TensionStress, long workdays, jaw clenching, dehydration
MigraineHormones, foods, sleep changes, weather, stress
Other signs
CervicogenicRestricted neck rotation, tenderness where the skull meets the neck
TensionTight upper traps and shoulders, often worse by late afternoon
MigraineLight or sound sensitivity, nausea, sometimes visual aura
How chiropractic helps
CervicogenicTreats the neck pattern directly. Often the most responsive of the three.
TensionEases the muscular and joint limitations that feed the pattern.
MigraineWorks alongside medical care to address the cervical component.

Supine Cervical Adjustment

A controlled, low-force adjustment to the top of the neck. Typically the opening technique for cervicogenic and tension-type patterns.

Manual Cervical Decompression

Sustained, gentle traction takes pressure off the cervical joints and the surrounding soft tissue. Particularly useful for patients whose headaches follow long desk hours.

Understanding the Pattern

Most patients don't realize how often the upper cervical spine drives chronic headache patterns. Cervicogenic headaches, which start in the neck and refer pain upward, account for up to twenty percent of all chronic headaches.

Many tension headaches share the same structural drivers. Even classic migraine sufferers frequently have a cervical component that, when addressed, reduces how often migraines arrive. If your pattern overlaps with tech neck from long hours at a desk, that connection is worth a closer look.

The goal of chiropractic care for headaches is to treat the joint and muscular patterns behind the pain. For many patients, that means fewer headache days and shorter episodes. More on that pattern in our guide to natural migraine relief in Clairemont.

What to Expect

Assessment and treatment happen in the same first visit. A full headache history and structural exam of the neck and upper back show Dr. Stein what's restricted, and he corrects it before you leave. Walk in for walk-in chiropractic care in Clairemont, or call ahead. Both work.

From patients who came in for headaches and migraines.

I waited over 10 years to see a Chiropractor. Doctor Stein did neck adjustments and the migraines I suffered 10 years stopped. Thanks Doctor Stein.

I could not move my neck or shoulders and had the worst headache. It was debilitating. I went in for an adjustment that afternoon and within an hour, I felt way better. My headache subsided and I could move my neck and shoulders again.

— Miriam S.

Yoss is very knowledgeable about chiropractic care and makes me feel comfortable with his down to earth personality. As a hairstylist, my neck and back are regularly feeling tight, but after coming to see Dr Stein I feel great! Regular visits also keep me from getting frequent migraines. Yoss is amazing at what he does!
